 Pattern Creation App Design 

OVERVIEW

“Jet Pocket Design” is a garment pattern creation app designed to produce technical patterns for a selection of bespoke or pre-determined clothing designs.

 

The app is an alternative to fast fashion that never quite seems to fit the customer.

 

Using an advanced algorithm the app will accurately produce a garment from the library to fit all measurements input by the user.

 

Professionals will also have the option to upload their own designs for review and pattern creation by an in house pattern maker.

There would be a training and information section to help the user gain an understanding of pattern design and also show how to take correct measurements to make sure patterns are created as accurately as possible for the customers’ satisfaction.

CONTEXT & COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

“Jet Pocket Design” will be designed to consider many of the technical challenges of sewing in both an amateur and professional setting.

 

Unlike “Tailor Guide” and “Clothing Pattern Designs” this app will not just include the “know-how” to measure and produce a technical garment pattern design but also allow the user to easily create a garment that is guaranteed to accurately fit their specific body shape with no prior pattern making expertise.

 

This app will be designed with a more technical and professional look as it would be a great technical design tool. It includes a cutting edge algorithm for more advanced sewing in a professional setting. Avoiding the gimmick-y sewing look will set it apart from the look and feel of the other sewing creation apps available now.

DESIGN ELEMENTS

Designing a mood board and other elements, such as a logo and background patterns, is imperative to a solid and cohesive looking design. I considered previous app looks as well as pattern blogs and other fabric related imagery to achieve the colours and look for “Jet Pocket Design”.

I chose to stick with SF pro display font as this is recommended and extensively tested by Apple to ensure easily legible text.

WIREFRAMES AND THE FEEDBACK LOOP

With my user flows to guide me I began to sketch low fidelity wireframes to gauge the basic flow of the app.

 

Once completed, I created a basic prototype that could be tested by my users.

From the feedback gathered I then created some mid fidelity wireframes, adjusting the layout and colours to suit the target audience more successfully.

Low Fidelity

MID FIDELITY, GESTURES & TRANSITIONS

Once I had solidified the basic design of the app and its flow, it was time to think about gestures. I looked back onto other similar apps and figured out how they used gestures and transitions to allow a smooth and enjoyable experience. From the login to the tutorial and input functions, I knew these we important to get right in order to get the feel of the app intuitive, functional and fun.
